SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Sharon presents book-based, participatory programs to children in
kindergarten through eighth grade. She tailors presentations to
schools’ needs and interests.

Historical Fiction: A Backstage Tour
Children examine old coins, maps, and paintings and listen to a
“mystery language” as they learn about research methods and materials.
Appropriate for all grades.
Begin and Begin Again
Students study multiple drafts of one paragraph as they explore the
writing process, with an emphasis on revisions. Appropriate for 4th
grade and up.
Between Two Covers
Students compare galleys and proofs in different stages as they
explore the publishing process, from first draft to first printing.
This program also explores writers’ relationships to editors, agents,
publishers, and illustrators as well as the interplay between text and
illustrations. Appropriate for 5th through 8th grades.
Short-term residencies are available, as well as faculty
consultations on nurturing young writers.
